Sleep Talk

George is lying on the couch, dozing. Mary is serving snack (honeydew melon chunks) at the table.

"Hey George," I say softly, "are you awake?"
"NO."
"Oh. Well if you were awake I would tell you that Mary is serving snack at the table if you want it."

...

"If you decide to be awake, you can have some melon."

...

"No thanks, I think I'll stay sleeping."
